This picture was taken using a lens with a f/1.8 aperture. The shallow depth of field is created in 2 ways (that are really the same way). Basically the trick is to open your aperture all the way and stop down the light with either your ISO or your shutter speed or a little of both. I've read that longer lenses make this trick easier but I've had mixed results.
I can never remember how to adjust the depth of field on my camera to do stuff like this. Really cool.
